No, not that Winter’s Tale, the Mike Batt and Tim Rice one…
At the Saturday Matinee of ‘A Winter’s Tale’ – the latest London Gay Men’s Chorus show, hosted by Sandi Toksvig At Cadogan Hall.
More lyrical and nuanced than many of their shows, and still excellently sung (perhaps even more so), the repertoire was extensive, including Mike Batt and Tim Rice (for the eponymous title song), Sondheim, Rogers and Hammerstein and the hugely apposite, and very funnily performed Hygge (Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez) which Toksvig joined in on. It also included the most camp Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious I have ever seen (and that’s asking a lot) and a very fine selection from the Sound of Music where the 120 or so strong ensemble (about half the full Chorus) suddenly ‘wimpled-up’. Performed in aid of Stonewall Housing – supporting LGBTQ+ homelessness.
