Mad as a box of frogs
Just back from Handel’s Alcina at Glyndebourne - a ‘mad as a box of frogs’ plot made far less clear by being re-set in a Variety theatre in post war (probably) Italy, both on and backstage.
Two of the male characters are sung by women (of course) and one (another one) of the women is disguised as a man (naturally). Oh and one actual man disguises himself as another actual man. The costumes are Folies Bergère, the sets Polly Pocket. The singing is divine (with two understudies performing - excellently - at Glyndebourne for the first time)! If you like Handel, spectacle (including amazing costumes), mad plots, great singing (and a great orchestra) this will be for you.
