Looking for a needle in...
Just back from Haystack at the Hampstead. This new play addresses the hot topic of the internet and cyber security, and what living in a surveillance society might do to that society.
It is also, and unusually for the theatre in my experience, a real thriller, and a gripping one at that.
Cleverly directed to give the idea of jump-cuts on stage (effectively, too) it manages to be both fast moving and engaging.
A five hander (3 women, two men) it is an ensemble piece which allows real emotional acting at times. Literally shocking (see it!) it is the last, and perhaps the best (of a broadly good bunch) of the Hampstead’s current main stage season of 4 new-ish plays (this is entirely new).
Worth seeing, if not here, then in a very possible transfer. (Written before Covid struck!)
