The house in Winter

A touch of normality?

This afternoon to a Christmas Concert at Glyndebourne with the Festival Choir and the Glyndebourne Tour Orchestra.

This is an annual event, but this year one of the few performances actually in the opera house – all socially distanced – with a two seat gap between ‘bubbles’ and alternate rows blanked.

When it opened with the overture from The Marriage of Figaro I found myself welling up, to hear that music, live and indoors seemed, after everything this year, very unexpected.

The music was fine, and elegant, the singing on point, the programme seasonal without being mawkish or over familiar. But to be back applauding live performers, indoors. Wonderful.

This was our last show until lockdowns eased again in June 2021!
